The Hypocrisy of: “We shall never forget”
Fair warning, this may be controversial. I will repeat myself throughout this work, that I do not condone hatred towards any one's race, nor do I believe one life means more than the other, nor do I believe one's country is better than the others, nor do I believe ones religion is better than the other, nor do I have any hatred towards any one's belief, nor do I have hatred towards the Jewish people, nor do I support any form of hatred towards any kinds of people.
PLEASE BE AWARE THE MEDIA AT THE BOTTOM MAY BE TOO GRAPHIC TO WATCH. WATCH WITH CAUTIONS.
The reason I write this is that people will take this out of context and I’m not here to advocate any kind of hostility; only to educate the hypocrisy of society about different Genocides and attacks. I advocate love and peace towards all races, skin color, religion, sexual orientation, and present no hostility towards anyone's belief. I only ask that you hear me out. Thank you.
For a long time as I can remember we were drilled into our heads that we should never forget the tragic incident that happened during World War 2. Many Jews lost their lives in the concentration camps along with others. It wasn’t real, I thought to myself when I learned about it back in the sixth grade. It couldn’t be, my naive self couldn’t process the tragedy that actually happened. But, I learned to accept it, it happened and we shouldn’t forget it.
What I thought was the only genocide in history was actually false. While the genocide of the Jewish people is something to remember in history and it is a sensitive topic, however, they aren’t the only group of people that went through a hard time, so why aren’t we discussing other genocides? Why is it a universal truth that Hitler has done wrong towards the Jewish people, but Christopher Columbus murdering the Native Americans is considered either controversial or an act of war? As if the act of war is something to glance over.
We don’t discuss other genocide that had happened in history, we are only focused on the one and that is the Holocaust. We don’t discuss Stalin’s camp, the Gulag. Where you can be imprisoned there just for making a joke about Stalin or even coming to work late; clearly freedom of speech was not a thing in Russia after World War 2. Approximately 2.7 million (possible) of inmates have died in these camps, I will even add a video where I have gotten this information.
Around 2 million people were killed in Cambodia during Pol Pot’s regime of a communist state. A massive amount of people were killed including people who were religious, therefor many Buddhist monks were killed off. They even killed off doctors, teachers, civil service, and others, simply because they were smart and smart/educated people were considered dangerous. There is more to the list, however, you can find more things that had happened during Pott’s regime in the video down below. I can guarantee you only a handful of people know about this information.
Recent genocide a lot of people do not discuss enough is the Rwanda genocide. There are two groups the Hutus and the Tutsi. Due to much trouble between the two groups; war and racism between the two abrupted, it started around the 70s until 1993, where international affairs pressured them for peace. When the president of Rwanda was killed due to a possible planned plane crash (the plane being shot down), the Hutus extremists wanted to organize a genocide against the people who killed the president. It is said that the Hutus extremists planned to kill the president to give a reason to start a genocide against the Tutsis. The Hutu extremists encouraged to kill, beat, rape, the Tutsi where ever they find them, leading to massacres. Officials would even look over I.D’s to identify what they are and kill them on-site if they had to. Within 3 months around 2 Million people were slaughtered. The U.N did nothing until the genocide was over. More informations are at the bottom, a video, and article.
I just like to remind everyone that I am not here to one up to the Holocaust. I am simply trying to convey that we are still facing many problems today, the concept of “Let’s not forget,” should not apply to the Holocaust, but to every genocide that had happened, and is happening now. I know I can’t list them all but I do wish to spread the knowledge of other Genocide that wicked humans have caused.
Right now Muslim minorities are being killed in the country of China, in the Xinjiang province. They are “re-educating” them to believe in the Communist China ideology, they can not practice their religion and must do what they are told in these detention centers. The Chinese government destroyed Mosques, banned there music and clothing, forced to drink alcohol and forced to eat pork (which are forbidden in Islam), get interrogated, and also received physical/verbal abuse. The Chinese government has told the public they are fighting against Terrorism, they accuse everyone that are Muslims a terrorist or an extremist. In order to eradicate extremists, they must have to educate them. China’s officials denying any of these claims and calling it fake news.
Racism and hatred are running rampant, it’s not a new thing, we have the BLM movements and everyone is for them, as I am and I hope they receive justice; now and in the future! However, where is the same enthusiasm when we are discussing the beginning of another genocide that is happening in our time, yet we do not wish to talk about it. Where are the people protesting for the Muslim people of China, or Palestine, or even in Kashmir? Yes, we do have a handful of individuals that march for peace, but we are still heavily ignored. While Isreal is getting rid of Palestine, China is going so far to change the words of not just the Quran, but also the Bible. Saying they will change it to fit the need of modern-day. On what authority does the government of China have the right to change sacred texts? China allows no freedom of religion, as you can see they go out of their way to kill them or ban what they don’t like.
We are told, “Never let it happen again,” it happened again, too many times. It’s still happening and it will continue to happen. What’s the point of not wanting another Holocaust when another one is at the work, it is 2020 and many people believe the Holocaust was the only mass genocide in the world. I’m not denying that it wasn’t a horrifying event, I am saying that we must acknowledge every genocide and do something to try to stop the next one. Getting our leaders involved it’s probably the best step, after that… truthfully I don’t know. I’m not a politician, I’m simply a writer who is passionate about human lives. I love everyone, and it hurts to see my people or any other people going through so much abuse. I want more people to know about this, and speak against this. I want people to understand that the situation in China is getting worse, that this is the genocide that’s happening NOW! We should never stay silent to anything, especially something as horrible as this.
So tell me, have we ‘forget?’
